About the Show

Jon Smith describes his style as “loose realism with a hint of Impressionism.” His ongoing studies led him inside museums, where he became enthralled with the relationship of people to artwork. Today, he loves creating oil paintings that capture the fine lines of museum architecture and the lively spontaneity of people enjoying the art. Smith believes the goal of his painting is provide an introduction to a story. “Don’t let the experts tell you how to look at a painting. Discover for yourself the story behind the image you are viewing,” he says. His work is included in many private and corporate collections including the Boston Stock Exchange, Omni and Westin Hotels in Boston and New Haven and even the venerable Union Oyster House. The 26th Annual Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton is New England’s most exciting and prestigious show of fine and functional art. Taking place during the busy holiday weekend, this event attracts strong attendance, an educated clientele and extraordinary media coverage. 30% of the show’s attendees live in the region; 70% travel to Northampton from across New England, New York and beyond.

Located on Interstate-91 just 15 minutes north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, Northampton is under an hour from Hartford, the Berkshires and southern Vermont; under two hours from Boston, Albany and southern Connecticut; less than three hours from New York City. Designated ‘The Best Small Art Town in America’, Northampton is a cultural, dining and shopping destination for visitors from all over the Northeast.

The Facility

The Three County Fairgrounds is set against rolling hills by the majestic Connecticut River, and is easily accessible via I-91 and the Massachusetts Turnpike. The show is completely under cover and takes place entirely indoors in three identical new buildings connected by covered walkways. All indoor spaces are carpeted, with a mixture of natural and artificial light. The new show entrance is in a central location with equal access to all buildings.

A limited number of outdoor spaces are available for those artists showing large-scale sculpture. The Sculpture Promenade provides exhibiting artists with a beautiful setting for landscape-oriented pieces. Outdoor areas also provide additional placement for sculpture installations, greenery, and a convenient resting area for attendees.

This was probably my best show to date. I appreciate your professionalism, how well advertised the events are and how you take care of the artisans.
